Honest question, and I'd rather ask it than guess.
Since the book came out, the most common message I've had is some version of "when's the audiobook?" I want one too. This book was built for it - two voices, a rockumentary structure, songs that already exist. It practically narrates itself, except it doesn't, and that's the problem.
Doing it properly means two narrators, one for Mick and one for Siofra, both of them good. Not me in a cupboard with a duvet over my head. I've already got the narrators ready, and I know the audiobook will be incredible. All in, that comes to around €7,500, and as a one-man indie press with a production budget of roughly zero, I can't justify writing that cheque up front on a hope.
So I'm thinking Kickstarter. Backers would get the audiobook before anyone else, and I'd put together a handful of tiers with extras on top - signed paperbacks, the album, that sort of thing. Details later, if there's enough interest to warrant details.
That's what this poll is for. No commitment, no card details, just a quick show of hands so I know whether to build it or park it.
Would you be interested in backing a Kickstarter campaign to make an audiobook of Cold Heart October? This would be studio-produced with two amazing narrators. As a backer, you will get early access, and loads of extras, plus the warm fuzzy feeling of supporting the arts.
If the answer is Nope, I'd be interested in hearing why? Do you already have Audible credits? Do you not listen to audiobooks? Something else? Please leave a comment below.
