When Jamie Newgent's life implodes — his wife cheats, his business crumbles — he retreats to a gloomy bachelor pad on the fourth floor of a looming tower block, hoping for peace, or at least decent plumbing.

What he gets instead is a spiral staircase that shouldn't exist. One that leads... somewhere else.

Strange things begin to happen: time behaving oddly, neighbours who don't quite belong, and a toaster that refuses to follow the laws of physics. Caught between a retro dream upstairs and a feisty hippy downstairs, Jamie realises he's in the middle of something much bigger than heartbreak.

Then he meets Anna. And everything changes.
